WorkGrain
WorkGrain · business systems, built to fit

The system that runs your business, built with the grain of how you already work.

I'm Owen. I learn how your month actually runs, then build the AI and automation that take the busywork off your plate. Around the tools you already pay for, not on top of a pile of new ones.

The belief

Most businesses don't need another tool.

They need the ones they already have to finally work together, and the busywork in between to run on its own.

Every consultant wants to rip out what you've got and sell you their stack. I do the opposite. I learn how you already run, keep what works, and build around it.

The grain is already there. I just build with it.

The Grain Method

How the work goes.

Three phases. You see something working before you commit to the whole thing.

01

Walk the floor

I learn how your business actually runs.

Before I build anything, you walk me through a normal month, start to finish, in your own words. I find where the time and the money are leaking. You don't have to know what to automate. That's my job, not yours.

You get a blueprint: what's costing you the most, and what's worth fixing first.

02

Build with the grain

I build around how you already work.

The tools that work stay. The ones that don't get replaced. I wire it together so everything talks to each other, and the busywork starts running itself. You own all of it, in your own accounts.

You get a working system, built to fit. Not a tool you have to bend your business around.

03

Grow in phases

We start small and build from there.

We fix the one thing costing you the most first, and prove it pays for itself. Then we build out on your timeline, not all at once. I stay on to keep it sharp as you grow.

You get a partner who's still here in six months, not a one-off invoice.

Selected work

A few of the things I've built.

Three different problems. Each one built around how the business already worked.

Custom software

GetTakeoff

A construction estimating crew was losing days turning blueprints into takeoffs by hand.

I built them software that reads a plan set, breaks the scope down room by room, flags the open questions with page numbers, and walks an estimator through them before it generates the takeoff.

A blueprint becomes a structured takeoff they run themselves. Built and refined with them on a call every week.

CRM and operations

A home-services company

Leads, calls, quotes, and deposits lived in five different places, and things slipped the second they got busy.

I built one system: every lead caught the moment it comes in, a pipeline from quote to deposit to job done, and call details routed to the office so nothing gets lost.

One place to run the business, built around how the team already worked.

Websites

Wellness studios

Small studios with sites that loaded badly on a phone and rarely turned a visitor into a booking.

I rebuilt them as fast, modern sites that look right on mobile and push people toward booking, a day or two each.

Cleaner sites that get out of the customer's way.

Built solo, start to finish. The person who scopes it is the person who builds it.

Why now

The help big companies just got. For everyone else.

A few months ago, OpenAI spent four billion dollars building a company that does one thing: send engineers into the Fortune 500 to set up their AI for them.

They are never going to call you. The biggest companies on earth now have people who build this into how they work. Everyone below that line is on their own.

That's the job I do. The same kind of work, for businesses your size, by someone you can actually get on the phone.

Who you work with

One person. The one who builds it.

Owen NordbergFounder, WorkGrain

I started WorkGrain because I kept watching small business owners drown in tools that were supposed to make their lives easier. Eight apps, three spreadsheets, and a sticky note reminding them to follow up with the lead they almost lost.

You work directly with me, start to finish. The person who learns your business is the person who builds the system and the person who picks up when you text. No account manager, no junior, no handoff.

I build with the grain of how you already run, because the businesses I work with don't need to be reinvented. They need the friction taken out.

Start here

Let's find what's worth fixing first.

Book a walkthrough. Thirty minutes, no pitch. I learn how your business runs and tell you straight what I'd build, or whether you need me yet.

Wondering what it costs? I can't quote it without seeing how you actually run, the same way a mechanic can't price the repair from the parking lot. That's what the walkthrough is for.
